SeloHow it works →

Privacy, in plain language

Your driving licence is sensitive data and we treat it as the most protected thing Selo touches. Here is what we store, where, for how long, and what we never see at all.

What we store, and where

Your account basics (email, name, date of birth, approval status) live in our EU-hosted database and are readable only by you and by Selo. You cannot be marked verified or approved by anyone but us, and we cannot lose a password you never had: sign-in is by one-time email code.

If you verify your licence the automated way, the images and selfie are captured by and stored with our verification provider (Stripe), not Selo. We store only the outcome.

If you upload licence photos for manual review, they go to a private EU storage area with no public access. A reviewer sees them through links that expire in minutes.

Your card details are held by Stripe only. Selo stores a payment reference, never the number.

Check-in and check-out photos form the sealed condition record for each rental. They are evidence, content-fingerprinted so nobody (including us) can swap them, and kept as long as a dispute could depend on them.

What we never do

We do not hand your licence images to rental operators. At handover the operator sights your physical licence, as any rental company does; what Selo shares is at most confirmation that you passed verification.

We do not sell or share your data for advertising. The waitlist and booking data exist to run Selo, nothing else.

We do not keep sensitive documents longer than needed. Licence images from manual review are deleted once your verification no longer needs them, at the latest after your rental completes, or as soon as an automated verification covers you.

Measurement tools, and your choice

None of the optional tools below run unless you accept them in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind any time via the Cookie settings link below. Rejecting them changes nothing about how the site works.

Vercel hosts this site and gives us anonymous page counts. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, which is why it is not in the banner.

PostHog (with your consent) records which pages and steps get used, as anonymous events we define ourselves. Hosted in the EU. We use it to find where people get stuck.

Google Analytics (with your consent) gives us similar anonymous usage statistics. Google processes this data in the United States under the EU-approved safeguards for such transfers; it is the one tool in this list that is not EU-hosted.

Microsoft Clarity (with your consent) replays how our information pages are used, with text masked. It never runs on booking, check-in, account, claim or document screens, whatever you consent to: those screens carry your documents and we do not record them. Microsoft keeps replays for up to 30 days.

Sentry tells us when the site throws an error, so we can fix faults that would otherwise fail silently. It runs as essential infrastructure on an EU server, sends no session replays, and every report is scrubbed of emails, tokens and document paths before it leaves.

No PII goes into any analytics event: no email, no name, no date of birth, no licence details, no booking reference. Counts, categories and yes/no flags only.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time: hello@selohire.com.

One honest limit: deleting your account does not erase sealed condition records attached to completed rentals while a damage dispute could still depend on them. That protects you as much as the operator; it is the evidence that gets your deposit released.

The free sealing tool

Standalone sealed records belong to you. We store the record (photo fingerprints, zone list, fuel and odometer readings, plate, the rental company name you typed, and your signature), not your photos. You can delete any standalone record from your account at any time, and deletion is immediate and permanent.

Plates build a per-car history. The registration plate in a sealed record links records of the same physical car. We use this to show a renter, at the moment they enter that exact plate, how many prior sealed records the car has and which zones carry marks confirmed by at least two independent records. We never show anyone your photos, your name, your dates or your answers. There are no public per-car pages.

Rental outcome answers stay private. If you tell us what happened to your deposit, the answer is stored against your account and used only in aggregate. Nothing you submit is published without your explicit consent, and no figure is published at all below our evidence thresholds.

This page is the plain-language version; the formal policy will say the same things in longer sentences. Anything unclear: hello@selohire.com.
